A note from Dr. Chris Boyd
In light of the recent concerns regarding the Coronavirus, you may want to consider whether or not want to attend church or be in gatherings of large crowds. The Coronavirus is a type of virus that is spread much like the influenza virus through respiratory droplets (i.e. coughing and sneezing) and the virus can lie dormant on surfaces like door handles or other common things for several days. Symptoms of the virus are also similar to influenza and include fever, body aches, coughing and shortness of breath.
People who are more susceptible to the virus are those over 60 years of age, and those who have underlying chronic medical issues that might either suppress their immune system (i.e. diabetes, certain cancers, or who take medicines that suppress the immune system) or who have existing respiratory illnesses like COPD, emphysema, or chronic bronchitis. It is a good idea to practice good hygiene like washing your hands and covering your mouth when you cough or sneeze. It is also a good idea to limit your contact with others if you do not feel well and especially if you have a fever over 100.5.
If you have other concerns or questions, the Ohio Department of Health has a good website with lots of information at COVID-19 Resources for Local Health Districts and Providers
